Start Early and Plan

The earlier you begin packing, the less stressful the process will be. Start with items you use infrequently and gradually move toward daily essentials as moving day approaches. Aim to pack one room at a time to keep things organised and manageable.

Declutter Before Packing
Moving house is the perfect opportunity to declutter. Sort through your belongings and donate, sell or even discard items you no longer need. Not only will this reduce the number of boxes you have to pack, but it will also help create a fresh start in your new home.

Invest in Quality Packing Materials
Using quality packing materials, like sturdy boxes, bubble wrap, and packing tape, will keep your items safe during transit. Avoid using grocery or thin boxes as they can easily collapse, leading to damage. 

Label Each Box Clearly
Labelling each box with its contents and destination room in your new home will make unpacking much easier. Consider using a color-coded system or writing room names on the boxes for quick identification.

Keep Essential Items Separate
Pack a box of essentials you’ll need immediately after moving in. This might include toiletries, a few changes of clothes, chargers, snacks, important documents, and cleaning supplies. Keep this box easily accessible during the house move.

Pack Heavy Items in Small Boxes
Pack heavy items, such as books or kitchen appliances, in smaller boxes to avoid overloading. Using smaller boxes makes them easier to lift and reduces the risk of injury during the move.

Use Padding for Fragile Items
Wrap fragile items in bubble wrap, soft towels, or packing paper. For added protection, place padding at the bottom and top of each box, and avoid leaving any empty spaces that might allow items to shift during transit

Take Photos of Electronics Before Disassembly
For electronic devices, such as televisions and computers, take a picture of the wiring setup before disassembling. This will make reconnecting them in your new home much easier and less frustrating.

Don’t Overpack Boxes
Avoid filling boxes over the top , especially if they contain fragile or heavy items. Boxes that are too full are harder to lift and more prone to breaking. Secure with tape top and bottom .Remember to write on boxes

Make use of containers, baskets, and suitcases
To save boxes, pack your suitcases, storage containers, and laundry baskets with items first. Suitcases with wheels make it especially easy to transport your items
